Tutorial Videos

I have an educational background in video production. Yet, only in the COVID-19 pandemic, when half of my courses converted to synchronous online delivery and the other half to Hy-flex, did I begin developing video content to support my students' learning. To date, I have created over 120 video tutorials spread over 5 courses ranging from equipment and lighting demonstrations, to theory explanations, and software tutorials. Scroll down to view a small selection.

Zoom Lenses

Course Name: Capture 1

Course Code: PHO 8810

Original creation date: Sep 2020

Re-edited: Sep 2023

I created a more extended version of this video in the Fall of 2020 for a course called Studio I, which converted that semester to Hy-flex due to the pandemic.

In the Fall of 2023, I re-edited the video into this shorter format for the online portion of Capture 1, a new, specifically designed blended course using a flipped classroom approach. I created a more concise format to emulate social media style delivery and vary the approach from longer audio-rich content used that week.

5 in 1 Reflectors

Course Name: Capture 1

Course Code: PHO 8810

Original creation date: May 2022

Re-edited: Sep 2023

I created this video for a new exercise I taught in September 2022. I filmed earlier than intended as I knew the behind-the-scenes footage of me filming it would make appropriate visuals for my Principles of Learning Personal Philosophy of Learning Video Assignment. A sped-up version of this video can be seen in that video.

The re-edited version updated the title card to the new course name and added close captioning to comply with accessibility.

Incident Light Meters

Course Name: Capture 1

Course Code: PHO 8810

Original creation date: Oct 2020

Re-edited: Sep 2023

I created this video in the first semester of Hy-flex teaching as part of the flipped classroom approach we implemented in response to in-person room capacity limits.

The re-edited version updated the title card to the new course name and added close captioning to comply with accessibility.  In the newly designed blended learning course, I use the video to compliment text-based online content students complete before coming to class.

Lighting Ratio Review

Course Name: Theory II

Course Code: PHO 8768

Original creation date: Jan 2021

In response to students' requests for support, I created a video that reviewed topics explored in the previous course (Theory I). These included light metering and calculating stop differences for lighting ratios. This course had been converted to fully online (synchronous) during the pandemic, as previously, we would have completed this exercise collaboratively in person.

I will re-edit this video for a review in Capture 2 for Winter 2024.

Jewelry Photography Demonstration

Course Name: Studio II: Commercial

Course Code: PHO 8708

Original creation date: Feb 2022

I created this video demonstration of how to light and photograph a necklace to support a new lesson that was added to the Studio II: Commercial course. While the video is longer than most of the content I produce, it represents a task that typically takes about 1 hour to complete.

On-location Off-figure Fashion Photography

Course Name: Studio II: Commercial

Course Code: PHO 8708

Original creation date: Mar 2021

Re-edited: Feb 2023

I created a more extended version of this video in the Winter of 2021, which converted to Hy-flex due to the pandemic. I needed to demonstrate how to use window light to create light scenarios we previously taught in the studio with artificial lighting.

Once we returned to complete in-person instruction, I created condensed versions of all the location lighting videos to provide the students with resources on how to recreate complex studio techniques with available light on location.

In the newly modified program, I will re-reuse this resource in a course dedicated explicitly to location lighting in Fall 2024.

Additive Colour Theory

Course Name: Theory I

Course Code: PHO 8767

Original creation date: Oct 2021

I created this video to guide students through a hands-on exploration of additive and subtractive colour theory. Students could download the same file I am working on to follow along with the video or explore the concept independently. The video replaced in-person instruction during the pandemic.
